Component 12 is Paper 1 Reading and Writing. In the image it is scheduled for the afternoon of 29 September 2026.

Core exam rules: Candidates answer all questions. Dictionaries are not allowed. Answers are written on the question paper. Reading is worth 30 marks and writing is worth 30 marks. Speaking is separately endorsed from 1 to 5 and does not contribute to the written grade.

Reading and Writing, 2 hours, 60 marks, containing six exercises.

Paper 2 · 30%

Listening, approximately 50 minutes, 40 marks. This is Component 22 in the image.

Speaking · Separate endorsement

Approximately 10–15 minutes, 40 marks. This is Component 32 and does not contribute to the written grade.

Suggested two-hour plan

Complete Exercise 1. Read the questions first, then locate the answers; use key words for the final three-part answer.

15–35 min

Complete Exercise 2. Read A–D first and summarise the main idea of each section.

35–55 min

Complete Exercise 3. Keep notes as noun phrases and avoid copying whole sentences.

55–75 min

Complete Exercise 4. Eliminate clearly incorrect options and check each answer against the text.

75–115 min

Spend about 20 minutes on each writing task: 3 minutes planning, 13 minutes writing and 4 minutes checking.

115–120 min

Check spelling, tense, word count, paragraphing and coverage of all bullet points.
